About the artist
Sean McGuill is a visual artist currently based in Cork, Ireland. He graduated from Limerick School of Art & Design in 2018 with a degree in Printmaking & Contemporary Practice. After graduating, he completed a three-month residency at An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk and held his first solo exhibition %u2018The Great Filter%u2019 in Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda. He is a member of Cork Printmakers and the National Sculpture Factory - working with a variety of processes such as screen print, monotype, painting and mixed-media. Sean%u2019s work has been exhibited in a number of locations across Ireland and internationally, including the 191st RHA Annual Exhibition and the 140th RUA Annual Exhibition. His work has been selected for various awards including the Arts Council Agility Award. His work is held in a number of private and public collections.
About the artwork
This work is part of an ongoing series of paintings and prints, using found images taken from wildlife camera traps as a reference. The series is intended as a response to our connection/disconnection to our local ecosystems, and the effectiveness of tools such as technology and photography as a way to quantify and protect them.
