About the artist
Eleanor Cowell explores the notion place and space within modern technological landscapes. Cowell creates boundless spatial planes informed by gestures and colours from digital media. Her work considers the changing and increasing presence of technology and how that changes how we visually interact with information. She is interested in the groundless nature of scrolling on devices, and how that changes our perception of space. Her work explores the optimism and realities of technological developments, in a new changing world.
About the artwork
This image describes the groundless aspect of digital space, through creating limitless environments co-created with a machine, the printing press. Printmaking%u2019s traditional rolling process alters the original image as the plate is printed, the intended work uncontrollably disrupted. The drag of the ink cannot be controlled, the control handed to the printmaking roller to co-create the final image. I seek to capture the human and the mechanical, an exploration of potential harmony. This piece is a conversation between the revealed luminous surface and the material, rendered to mimic the glow of screens.
