About the artist

I consider myself quite an experimental artist, not necessarily restricted to a single medium but allowing the subject to suggest its medium. I particularly enjoy the challenge of gel plate printing, from capturing the right image, adjusting it to become the basis of the print, and the reverse painting. Then the print reveal and delicate adjustments to bring the image alive with expressive mark making. However, i have really enjoyed any printing that I have tried!

Nicola Bowers is a contemporary artist working in Cheshire. She is an experimental, often mixed media artist particularly interested in drawing from life and enjoying the challenges of working outside especially architectural landscapes. Following an engineering career path with degrees in geological science and geotechnical engineering, Nicola has pursued a passion for art through a variety of adult education such as through Macclesfield college, with courses including sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting and jewellery and enjoys transferring skills and inspiration between the disciplines.Nicola currently enjoys life drawing practice at Wilmslow Guild. She has exhibited at a number of Open Exhibitions including Stockport, Macclesfield and Chester, and recently held a joint show at Bollington Arts Centre and a solo show in Wilmslow

About the artwork

My commute through Manchester, my composition of the photo to capture the cold wet morning with a beautiful winter light breaking. I have edited my photo to suit the print technique & resist printed it to the gel plate with acrylic paint and reverse and overpainted with acrylic paint and acrylic marker pens. I have used dynamic marks to convey movement and a cool colour palette for a winter dawn
