Artist statement
Liza Kelly is a visual artist based in Dublin, Ireland. Her practice is based on imaginative and observational drawing, a dialogue between personal environments and memory, archival research drawn from museum collections, and art history. Her broad practice spans portraiture, interior studies, still life, and landscape.Kelly%u2019s recent work explores the history that is held in place, spaces and the objects within them. Her most recent work focuses on objects and places, tracing their stories and how they are affected by the imprint of time, use and memory.The artist%u2019s work is process-driven using analogue printmaking methods and direct monotype drawing. She often works with collagraph and drypoint techniques using Tetra Pak materials (i.e., recycled packaging) as a printing matrix. The limitations and unpredictability of the printmaking process become a part of the work and are embraced as integral to the final image.
Biography
Liza Kelly is a visual artist who lives in Dublin, Ireland. She works mostly in drawing and printmaking, particularly with unique or very limited edition collagraph and monotype methods, including Tetra Pak printmaking. She graduated from the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, in 1996 and completed the postgraduate Online Drawing Development Year at the Royal Drawing School, London, in 2022. She also holds an MA in Professional Design Practice from TU Dublin.Liza regularly exhibits her work in Ireland and internationally. Recent exhibitions include the Royal Academy of Arts (London), Royal Hibernian Academy (Dublin), Blue Shop Galleries (London), Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (London), Platforms Project (Athens), and the Royal Ulster Academy (Belfast). She is the recipient of awards from the Arts Council of Ireland and the Royal Drawing School, and was shortlisted for the Sir William Orpen Self-Portrait Prize in 2025. Her work is held in private collections in Ireland, U.K., Europe, Asia and the USA.
