Artist statement

Following a career building technology for the art world and a recent move to rural Dorset, I started printmaking this year. Having done no etching since art college, I%u2019m excited by the variety of techniques and I am developing a new method of making plates using a laser. I occasionally work with scans of drawings made on paper but mostly create my drawings on a digital tablet. Most of my work depicts people caught in fleeting moments, with the same immediacy as street photography. I generally work from my own photographs but sometimes use other people%u2019s selfies where the subject presents themselves as they wish others to see them. My style is simple: I build tonal images by layering simple lines of a consistent width until the form takes shape. I%u2019m on Instagram at @peterprintmaker.
